Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. She created Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit educational site that explores gender representation in popular stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. But, she also explores the issue of specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities who are left out. Sarkeesian, who holds an MA in Social and Political Thought from York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Feminist Frequency was founded in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian, university student who has been involved in topics that concern gender and feminism for quite a considerable period of time. In 2009, the determined young woman was slammed by the Internet for starting a web that focused on the gender of videogames. This attack was not enough to deter her. Instead, it increased her importance to be a feminist as well as media critic. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has made. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency, an educational organization that focuses on the ways women are depicted within the popular culture stories.
